Friday 17th January - walks *** – Around Waldringfield – cloudy, light winds and cold.

Another busy day of appointments, dentist this morning and a solicitor in the afternoon sandwiched in-between a walk and picnic at a chilly Waldringfield! We had time to do our exercises before Mag packed a picnic today before heading off to Walton just outside Felixstowe for a dental checkup which went well before we drove over to Waldringfield to park near the church on a gloomy cold day. It was too early for lunch we went on the walk first taking the inland route through the village to Sandy Lane with loads of hedgerow birds flitting about. We then turned right down to the River Deben path, I checked out a rickety jetty leading out into the marshes before carrying on pass the small nature reserve lake on on side and the river on the other, just lovely despite the cold, we were lucky that the wind was very light! There was loads of birds feeding into the mud including a couple of avocets, loads of ducks and waders:) The river is definitely in winter mode with only a couple of boats on the moorings and the walk was also very quiet, just how we like it:) We found a seat just past the Maybush pub for our yummy gammon roll and boy was it quiet and peaceful, we watched a man set off rowing towards Woodbridge but using a odd sail , a rectangle of cloth on two poles! We spotted a marsh harrier over the river right in front of us, I then said it would be nice to see a kingfisher then minutes later one whizzed past, the first we have seen here! After our warming cuppa, got to love our flask we decided to move off as it was just so chilly as we slowly made our way up past the dead lightning tree spotting even more singing robins:) Then we meet up with my sister and her partner at Martlesham for an appointment before heading for home for a welcome hot water bottle and cuppa!
